Our Group

Our group was a network of individuals and organizations, not a collective, organized as an open, self-empowered, transparent structure which was easy to get involved in. People were able to do support work through the network structure in a coordinated, short-term, manner, and formed teams that do support work in a coordinated, short-term manner. Our in-country teams were all experienced disaster workers.

Our network was built on a foundation of empathy, knowing what it feels like to be discriminated against, viewed as a threat, and betrayed and hurt by institutions that claim to exist to help people. It was built on mutual aid and solidarity in the spirit of the Haitian Revolution, understanding that our freedom depends on the degree to which Haiti is able to be strong, prosperous, and independent. And it was built on respect for our brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, and children who died in the earthquake and the security operation that followed, and respect for those who have survived as they rebuild their lives, families, communities, and nation.
